Northleigh House School is 10 years old!

A Big Birthday

This year Northleigh House School will be 10 years old. Since opening in 2012 they have helped over 100 students and their families - not bad for a school that is made up of a family home and some wooden buildings in the school grounds!

Well Being Centre

To mark this amazing milestone they have set a new fundraising goal this Spring, the task of building a bespoke 'Wellbeing Centre' at Northleigh.

Currently the school’s pastoral and mentoring sessions take place in a static caravan, which is neither particularly warm or cosy.

A budget has been agreed for the construction of a 2 room bespoke building in the grounds, complete with toilet facilities and a small kitchenette. The plans also take into account towing the existing static caravan off-site to a new home and then decorating and furnishing the new Wellbeing Centre.

The total budget the school needs to achieve is £60,000 – we look forward to watching the progress and supporting Northleigh wherever we can.

10 x 10 Birthday Challenge

The school is planning lots of different birthday events throughout the year, the first being the 10 x 10 Birthday Challenge. Over the course of the 10 weeks leading up to Northleigh's birthday on 12th June, the Northleigh team will be running 10 km per week.

Not only will this help raise funds but it also deonstrates the school’s belief in the strong link between mental and physical wellbeing.

The Northleigh team would love as many people to join or sponsor them as possible and we will share more details here as we get them.

Here are some updates from volunteers and students so far this year

Kieran and Bose from the Guardian Ballers in Coventry recently visited and led an entertaining and interesting assembly at Northleigh. The Guardian Ballers enable young people to engage in and enjoy basketball in their local community; as well as teaching the importance of physical and mental wellbeing.

Just before Christmas, some of the Northleigh students visited the Good Food Show along with the school Cookery teacher, Sue. They got chatting to Carl and his team from Chamberlin, at their stall selling hand-crafted ironware and were amazed and delighted to be given a griddle and skillet! There's even talk of a future visit to their foundry ....

Alfie and Brandon demonstrating that outdoor lessons are so much more fun!

Lara has just started volunteering at one of the school’s favourite National Trust properties, Baddesley Clinton. Best of luck Lara!

The students have been getting outdoors and making the most of dry days – here’s the students playing a game of tin can golf on the Astroturf and out for a walk at local Hatton Locks.

It’s been lovely to catch up on all the goings on at the school and we look forward to hearing more about plans for celebrating Northleigh’s special birthday through the year.
